LATERAL TRANSFERS
In-State Lateral Transfer
The Phoenix Police Department offers a lateral transfer program for current AZ-POST certified officers.
Applicants must have at least one year of experience as peace officers within the State of Arizona, and have an AZ-POST certification that is in good standing.
Applicants must have at least one year of experience as a peace officer/deputy within the State of Arizona and have an AZ-POST certification that is in good standing. Applicants must have one year of patrol experience not including administrative and training assignments. Applicants cannot be separated from a law enforcement agency for more than 4 months at the time of application. Applicants must have successfully completed a peace officer law enforcement academy which was certified by AZ-POST.
Applicants must successfully complete a background investigation and participate in a medical and psychological examinations appropriate to the Police Department. Use of City vehicles is required in the performance of assigned duties. Individuals must be physically capable of operating these vehicles safely, possess and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license.
Out-of-State Lateral Transfer
Applicants must have at least one year of experience as a peace officer/deputy with at least one year dedicated to patrol duties not including administrative and training assignments. Applicants cannot be separated from a law enforcement agency for more than 4 months at the time of application.
Applicants must successfully complete a background investigation and participate in a medical and psychological examinations appropriate to the police department.
Applicants will be evaluated on the City of Phoenix application, verification of peace/police officer status, experience and successful completion of the background phase. Qualified candidates who are hired will attend a needs assessment and certification process (approximately 4-6 weeks), to include the AZ-POST wavier exam. Once an out-of-state officer successfully completes the AZ-POST wavier examination, they will attend a two week post -academy class and then be assigned to a Field Training Officer squad in patrol.
A copy of the applicant's academy graduation certificate must be attached to the application.
